Ingredients

Scale

Custard Mixture

  • 7 egg yolks
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 3/4 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Bread Pudding

  • 1 loaf brioche bread, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set the oven temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the bread pudding.
  2. Mix Custard Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, whole milk, evaporated milk, 3/4 of the sweetened condensed milk can, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and sea salt until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  3. Soak Bread Cubes: Add the brioche bread cubes into the custard mixture. Gently fold the bread into the milk mixture until all pieces are completely coated and soaked.
  4. Prepare Baking Dish: Lightly grease a baking dish and transfer the soaked bread mixture into it, spreading evenly.
  5. Add Topping: Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the top of the bread mixture.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 60 minutes. The pudding should be golden brown on top and fully set in the center.
  7. Final Touch: Remove the bread pudding from the oven and immediately drizzle the remaining 1/4 can of sweetened condensed milk over the warm pudding.
  8. Serve: Serve the Tres Leches Bread Pudding warm for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • For a richer texture, use brioche or challah bread as they absorb the custard beautifully.
  • Make sure to gently fold the bread to avoid breaking the cubes into mush.
  • If you prefer a less sweet dessert, reduce the sugar slightly.
  • Chocolate chips add a lovely contrast but can be substituted with chopped nuts or omitted for a classic version.
  • Allow the pudding to rest for a few minutes after baking to let the custard fully set before serving.
