Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 Cups Old-Fashioned Oats
  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Unsalted Butter (Melted)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract

Add-ins

  • 1 1/2 Cups Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Coarse Sea Salt (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal of the bars.
  2. Mix Together Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the old-fashioned oats, all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Stir well to ensure all dry ingredients are evenly mixed.
  3. Add in the Wet Ingredients: Pour the melted unsalted butter, crack in the eggs, and add the vanilla extract into the dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are fully combined into a thick dough.
  4. Add the Chocolate Chips: Gently fold the semi-sweet chocolate chips into the batter, distributing them evenly throughout the mixture.
  5. Bake: Spread the dough evenly in the prepared baking pan, smoothing out the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes or until the bars turn a light golden color and are set in the middle when tested.
  6. Sprinkle with Salt, Cool and Slice: Immediately after removing the bars from the oven, sprinkle the top with coarse sea salt for a perfect sweet-salty contrast. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a chewier texture, slightly underbake the bars by a minute or two.
  • Ensure butter is just melted and slightly cooled to avoid cooking the eggs when mixed.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark or milk chocolate chips depending on your preference.
  • Using parchment paper makes removing the bars much easier and helps prevent sticking.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
