Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup (226g) Unsalted Butter, softened
  • ½ cup (57g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2 ¼ cups (279g) all-purpose flour

For Rolling

  • Additional powdered sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Make the dough: Using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy, about 20 seconds. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and molasses. Mix until the ingredients are fully incorporated and smooth.
  3. Add flour: Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the butter mixture. It may look crumbly at first, but continue mixing patiently until a soft dough forms.
  4. Shape the cookies: Scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough per cookie and place them spaced out on the prepared baking sheets.
  5. Bake: Bake the cookies for 10–12 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly browned. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool for a minute until warm enough to handle.
  6. Roll in powdered sugar: Pour extra powdered sugar into a small bowl and roll each warm cookie in the sugar until fully coated. Transfer the cookies to a cooling rack and once completely cooled, roll them in powdered sugar again for a beautiful snowy finish.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier mixing and better texture.
  • Molasses adds rich flavor and moisture; don’t skip this ingredient.
  • Double rolling the cookies in powdered sugar creates that classic snowball appearance and a sweet outer layer.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend, adjusting as needed for texture.
