Ingredients

Scale

Spice Mix

  • 3 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp ginger
  • 1 tbsp cardamom
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp allspice

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups (180g) rice chex cereal
  • 1 cup (180g) dairy-free white chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup (170g) No Sugar Added SunButter
  • 2 tbsp (25g) coconut oil (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Coating Sugar

  • 1 cup (200g) turbinado sugar OR 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix Spices: In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Set aside this aromatic spice mixture for later.
  2. Melt Chocolate Mixture: In a medium bowl, microwave the dairy-free white chocolate chips with the No Sugar Added SunButter, vanilla extract, and coconut oil for 1 minute on high. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is completely smooth and well combined.
  3. Coat Cereal: Pour the rice chex cereal into a large bowl. Add the melted white chocolate and SunButter mixture, stirring gently but thoroughly until every piece of cereal is evenly coated.
  4. Add Sugar and Spice: Stir the prepared spice mix into the sugar you selected (turbinado or powdered). Add this cinnamon-spiced sugar mixture to the coated cereal and mix well to ensure all pieces are covered evenly.
  5. Spread Out: Spread the coated cereal onto a large baking sheet lined with wax paper. Spread it out as much as possible to prevent big clumps and help the coating set evenly.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate the spread-out mix for 4 hours to allow the coating to firm up and the flavors to meld perfectly.
  7. Serve and Store: After chilling, break apart the puppy chow clusters. Enjoy immediately or store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for freshness.

Notes

  • Using dairy-free white chocolate chips and SunButter makes this recipe vegan and dairy-free.
  • The coconut oil is optional but helps create a smoother coating.
  • For less clumping, ensure the cereal is spread out well on the baking sheet before chilling.
  • Store puppy chow in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain freshness and crunch.
  • You can substitute turbinado sugar with powdered sugar depending on preference for texture and sweetness.
