Banana Bread Coffee Syrup Ingredients

  • 1 medium extra ripe banana, mashed (the more ripe, the better)
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks or 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (can reduce or omit if you don’t like nutmeg)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the mashed banana, granulated sugar, water, cinnamon sticks (or ground cinnamon), and ground nutmeg to a small pot over medium-low heat.
  2. Dissolve Sugar: Stir constantly until the sugar fully dissolves into the liquid, ensuring the mixture is smooth and the sugar is fully incorporated.
  3. Simmer: After the sugar dissolves, reduce stirring and let the mixture heat, stirring occasionally, until it is just about to boil, around 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Remove and Infuse: Remove the pot from heat right before it starts to boil, then let the syrup sit for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to deepen and infuse from the cinnamon and nutmeg.
  5. Strain Syrup: Pour the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a heatproof jar. Use a rubber spatula to press down and extract all the syrup from the banana pulp and spices.
  6. Cool and Store: Let the syrup cool completely; it will thicken as it cools. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one month.
